Dancing on Tables ...

It has already been called Australia's 'Silver Olympics' and there is almost certainly going to be yet more cries (with associated, media-prodded sobbing) of 'we need more money!' They are even being led by - shame of all shames - New Zealand when it comes to the medal table and what could be more humiliating than that? Other quarters say that the team as a whole lacks 'hunger' so perhaps less would be more in this case. Perhaps - like the arts - outcomes should be tied to funding? If your physical/creative abilities don't reap/produce tangible KPIs then chop-chop! It is very sad that being in the top 10, 20 or even 100 of anything is not considered an accomplishment in itself but it is even sadder again when this competitive streak applies to the arts. Too often the world is more about competing rather than simply doing or making.
